A recent publication revealed that Google’s Android is the No. 1 operating system in smartphones and tablets worldwide. When it comes to mobile handsets, devices more specifically smartphones that runs on Android outsells Apple iOS based devices four to one. Why Google Android is No.1? Unlike Apple iOS and Microsoft, Android software is open-source, meaning anyone can modify its code, add to it and use it in any device without paying a dime for it. Even the mighty U.S. Government uses it for many developments. Other similar operating systems such as Linux operating system not even come close to the success Android is experiencing today.
What’s behind this success? When Google bought the operation system from Android Inc. in 2005, it streamlined it to save power usage and provided more accessibility. It also added the touch capability. This is why it is run on many mobile devices now. No one has come close to reaching the success Samsung Electronics having with Android today. It is estimated that for $15,000 one can build and successfully launch it to the orbit running on Android. It is anyone’s guess where will it go from here in the future. Internet is a vast area yet to be navigated.
