Making your webpage hook your visitors and make sure they don’t just leave is as simple as making their browsing experience easy yet entertaining. The goal in making a good web page is making someone’s browsing experience fluid. Keep all the links and buttons in the right place, group them together according to their relevance with each other, but most of all make things CLEAR. Nothing annoys visitors more than a website they can’t make sense of, which causes them to leave.
Assume that your visitor does not have a lot of patience, so you should make sure that he gets the information he’s looking for in a couple of clicks. Getting to the different parts of your site shouldn’t be a maze for your visitors.
Another thing that you can do is keep in mind is mise en scene. Mise en scene is an expression used to describe the design aspects in theatre of film. Generally what it means is that everything that your viewer sees has a purpose. Make sure that everything, every button, link, sentence, word, even line has a purpose in your webpage. Leave out all the useless stuff and make sure that your designs and other aesthetic qualities are just enough so that they make the page visually appealing but not confusing. Lastly, all the other basic rules still apply like choosing the right colors for fonts and backgrounds, you can’t have an effective web page if your visitor can’t even read the words!
