Platform-as-a-service is the most current trend on the Web and Salesforce.com, IBM, Oracle and SAP are lining up to grab your business and the market share. Salesforce is the leader commanding more than 20 percent of the trending market.
PaaS is a cloud computing service similar to software as a service (SaaS) and infrastructure as a service (IaaS). The platform provides programming tools and/or libraries including programming language and frameworks; service provider also manages and control infrastructure including networks, servers, storage and operating systems; and provides tedious services such as security patches. The customer has the capability to control deployed applications and configuration settings. Provider can add more servers with increased traffic, and tools to quickly create cloud services. All of these makes rolling out cloud services much easier for companies. The customer controls software deployment and configuration as needed for their setting. Networks, servers, storage and other services are made available by the provider. As an example, new apps created on the platform helps companies to instantly find out how much its products left on the shelf just by taking a picture. Low initial cost is a huge benefit of the service to the customer.
